Boards, Canoes, and Kayaks

The RowSurfer can be used on sailboards and SUP-boards, canoes, and kayaks.

Boards

RowSurfer on a sailboard or sup The RowSurfer can be used on many types of boards, both SUP boards as sailboards. Preferably, the board should have sufficient length and volume. We recommend boards over 3.5 meters long and over 200 liters in volume, although smaller boards can also be used depending on your weight, skills, and intended use.

Below are some examples of the sup boards suitable for the RowSurfer, both low-end entry models as high-end race boards:

Within the sailboards, the so-called longboards are suitable. But in addition, the old-school windsurfing sailboards are also perfectly suited for the RowSurfer. There are still many of these around, often laying unused in someones garage. These can usually be obtained for very little money. Here is a list with some examples of old(er) boards suitable for the RowSurfer:
Used sailboards on stock We always stock a number of these old-school longboards for reasonable prices. Please contact us at info@rowsurfer.com to enquire what is currently available.

Canoes

RowSurfer mounted in a canoe The RowSurfer is perfectly suitable to be used in canoes, including the popular so-called Canadian canoes. Because of the versatile mounting options, the RowSurfer can easily be mounted in virtually any type of canoe. The RowSurfer can be hung from the gunwales, mounted to existing benches or thwarts, or even simply be placed on the bottom of the canoe. Sometimes it may be necessary to (temporarily) relocate or remove benches or thwarts. We happily advise you on the optimal mounting option for the RowSurfer in your canoe.

Two RowSurfers mounted in one canoe: a double scull In most somewhat larger canoes it is often even possible to mount two RowSurfers in a row, thereby creating a double sculling rowing shell! This option is already feasible if your canoe has a free inboard space of about 280 cm long and 42 cm wide.

Below are some examples of canoes suitable for the RowSurfer:

Kayaks

RowSurfer mounted in a kayak The RowSurfer can also be used in kayaks. Kayaks with an open cockpit are particularly suited, but also sit-on-top kayaks or even closed kayaks can be used. Since kayaks in general are somewhat narrower than canoes, this option most closely resembles the single scull, double scull, or C rowing shell. We recommend a minimum length of 3.5 meters and an overcapacity of about 10 to 15 kg, although smaller kayaks can also be used depending on your weight, skills, and intended use. In the case of an open cockpit kayak, a minimal cokpit size of about 42 by 140 cm is required. This means that almost all two-person open cockpit kayaks can be equipped with a RowSurfer. If space allows it, a passenger can be taken along next to the RowSurfer. Single person, open cockpit kayaks often also provide sufficient space for a RowSurfer to be mounted.

In case the kayak provides insufficient cockpit space or the kayak is even closed, we can adapt the kayak to accept a RowSurfer by changing the deck of the kayak into an easily removable and replacable lid. In this way, we can also adapt two-person kayaks to mount two RowSurfers to create a double scull rowing shell.
In addition, many so-called "sit-on-top" kayaks can be equipped with a RowSurfer. The clearance needed for the rigger slide has to be taken into account though. It is also possible to mount a RowSurfer on top of a (closed) kayak. However, as a result one gets to sit pretty high up from the water, and therefore keeping your balance will be more difficult.

Below are some examples of kayaks suitable for the RowSurfer:
